Program Development and Evaluation Plan |
Summary:
|
The Program Development and Evaluation Plan is the basic plan for a library media program. The PDEP contains policies, procedures, and principles that a media specialist will use to operate the media center program. |
Reflection: |
Creating the PDEP forced me to think about the many aspects of administering a school library program. I had to develop things such as a mission statement, objectives, and personnel job descriptions. I also had to create a hypothetical budget that aligned with my objectives. The budget and objectives gave me practice so that I will be better able to properly manage program resources when I have my own media center. The PDEP also helped me think about how I would assess my progress toward my objectives each year. I set in place a plan that would enable both me, media center personnel, and the media committee to properly assess and evaluate what the media center is doing. The development of a plan like this will enable me to keep myself accountable when I have my own media center. It has given me an understanding of how to set goals and determine whether or not they have been reached. |
Self Assessment: |
I was very pleased with the PDEP. If I could change something, it would probably be to shorten it or create an abbreviated version for administrators. I would like administration to know what is in the PDEP, but I know that they may not have the time to read the original. |

Order |
Summary: |
This assignment called for each group to pick an objective from the PDEP. The goal was to use $2000 to compile a list of resources to purchase that would support the planning objective. Along with the order, a PowerPoint was created for the Media Committee in order to defend our choices. |
Reflection: |
This assignment provided me with a realistic, collaborative opportunity to apply my selection skills. Working with my group, we decided to focus our order on increasing the amount of Hispanic literature in our collection. We used literature reviews, book lists, and other sources to compile our order. The order gave me a chance to manage information resources and use them to meet media center objectives. I also got a chance to work with Titlewave, which will be a great asset when I am a media specialist. |
Self Assessment: |
I thought we did a good job on this assignment. I wish I had made more time to examine the quality of some of the resources. For some of the books, I only looked at one good book review. I think that I should have found more information about some of the books before I placed them on our order. I know that I should choose resources carefully, but I also know that sometimes, a media specialist will not have an ideal amount of time to spend on ordering books. I liked the PowerPoint we came up with for the Media Committee; I think that was a very practical part of the assignment. I think, however, if I were to present that to a group, I would clean it up and make it look more aesthetically pleasing. |
